The Unpaid Care Workshop (UCW) held in 2013, was a follow up on the UN Social Summit where one commitment was to create an economic, political, social and legal environment that will enable people to achieve social development.
The initiative was aimed at influencing public social policy making on Unpaid Care Work (UCW) and develop advocacy action plan to have UCW recognized. Secondly was to look at how UCW affects women and how it can be recognized, quantified, reduced and redistributed. Lastly stakeholders discussed how to make UCW visible shared trends in recognition of UCW.
The forum drew participation from the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, Ministry of Planning and Devolution, Senate, National Assembly and Civil Society. From the workshop an advocacy action plan on UCW was developed.
